Brilliant movie, one I'd watch again... loads to think about :) (Film Qlub member, Young Man with a Horn, april 2013) Thanks for a lovely afternoon, enjoyed the movie and the analysis after in the Flounge :-) (member of Running Amach, Young Man with a Horn, april 2013) Super film (Film Qlub Member, Young Man with a Horn, april 2013) Great film and thought provoking discussion (member of Running Amach, Young Man with a Horn, april 2013) I really enjoyed the film and talk after. The Flounge and the meal were an added bonus. Looking forward to next month's film already! Cheers (member of Running Amach, Young Man with a Horn, april 2013) Great movie. (Day Member, Young Man with a Horn, april 2013) Very enjoyable afternoon. (member of Running Amach, Young Man with a Horn, april 2013) I cant believe they were allowed to make this movie as far back as 1964!! (Day Member, Les Amitiés Particulières, march 2013) Lovely though heartbreaking story. Particularly loved the
younger actor. Well done again guys for another great movie... (member of Running Amach, Les Amitiés Particulières, march 2013) Cool movie as always and interesting 'short' beforehand too!! :) (member of Running Amach, Caged!, february 2013) A great film. (Day Member, Caged!, february 2013) Really strong gutsy film, enjoyed the short and discussion afterwards too! (member of Running Amach, Caged!, february 2013) Thanks for finding this film. (Day Member, Bewildered Youth, january 2013) I wouldnt say it is a great film, but it is very interesting because of the historical context. (Day Member, Bewildered Youth, january 2013) The director was a disgrace [in terms of the racist films he made in the 30s]. I am very surprised that he made this film. But that was a totally homophobic ending. (Day Member, Bewildered Youth, january 2013) I didnt find it homophobic at all. I thought it was a very pro-gay movie. (Day Member, Bewildered Youth, january 2013) How do you find these films?! (a bewildered Day Member, Bewildered Youth, january 2013) Wow! (a member of the audience, at the sight of Katharine Hepburn with a moustache in the middle of the film, Sylvia Scarlett, december 2012) It was very well filmed, with some great camerawork at times (Day Member, Sylvia Scarlett, december 2012) Amazing to think this film was made in 1935 (member of Running Amach, Sylvia Scarlett, december 2012) Great film and I enjoyed the discussion afterwards (member of Running Amach, Sylvia Scarlett, december 2012) Very entertaining if far fetched Sylvia Scarlett / Katharine Hepburn
1936 film. I loved the sea rescue scene. This movie is hers for sure,
striking the attention of all whether she plays boy or girl. The short
"Homosex and the City" was hilarious. Great end to Film Qlub for 2012. Onward to 2013. (member of Running Amach, Sylvia Scarlett, december 2012) Lovely, Katharine Hepburn makes a beautiful man. (member of Running Amach, Sylvia Scarlett, december 2012) I had never heard about this film before (Day member , The Leather Boys, november 2012) Some films of the period are ambiguous, they dont make it clear if they have a gay theme of not, but this is obviously a gay film (Day member, The Leather Boys, november 2012) Apart from the gay story, I liked the portrait of working class people in the film, like the grandmother, resilient and proud, getting on with it and not showing any signs of weakness in front of others. I have known many people like her, she felt real. (Day member, The Leather Boys, november 2012) A very enjoyable film (film qlub member, The Leather Boys, november 2012) Really enjoyed the film club as usual. Really beautiful, crafty and interesting film with a great discussion afterwards as always (film qlub member, Cat People, october 2012) I saw the film many years ago and I didn't pick up on the lesbian content, but it's different to watch it in a gay context (Day Member, Cat People, october 2012) I really enjoyed it. The film was ' super-lesbian ' --- said in my best [Catalan] accent! The New Theatre is a really cute venue! (member of Running Amach, Cat People, october 2012)
I really enjoyed my
first Film Qlub event and I'll definitely be back :-) (member of Running Amach, Cat People, october 2012) One of the best films I've ever seen. (Film Qlub member, Pixote, July 2012) Extraordinary. (Day member, Pixote, July 2012) An amazing film (Day member, Pixote, July 2012) Really good. Tough to watch though. (Film Qlub member, Pixote, July 2012) It was a fun movie and very different from the last two movies I've seen at the Film Qlub. I'm curious to see more anime now. It was a great discussion afterwards, as always, and it was brilliant that Katherine Farmar was there to explain the genre to us as it was new territory for almost everyone. I can't wait for Season 3 now! (member of Running Amach, Project A-Ko, june 2012) Wonderful afternoon (Film Qlub member, Project A-Ko, june 2012) It wasn't my kind of film, but I'm really glad I went and heard people's opinions on
it. Lovely meet up and great conversation afterwards. (member of Running Amach, Project A-Ko, june 2012) A film to stop thinking and just let yourself go. Really refreshing and super
fun. (member of Running Amach, Project A-Ko, june 2012) A great film. My favourite film of the Season so far. (Film Qlub member, The Fourth Man, may 2012) The film was fun! (Day member, The Fourth Man, may 2012) It reminded me of Hitchcock, and of David Lynch. (Day member, The Fourth Man, may 2012) Where did you get this film? It is not available anywhere. (Day member, The Fourth Man, may 2012) It was a very entertaining movie! Great choice. (Day member, The Fourth Man, may 2012) The Film Qlub is a great concept and everyone was so welcoming. And tea and biscuits beforehand - sure you can't go wrong!! I loved the discussion about the film afterwards - it's brilliant to hear other people's views on the characters and the storyline and it made me think a bit differently about the movie I saw. I'll definitely be back to the Film Qlub! (member of Running Amach, april 2012) I really enjoyed the movie. My favourite this season I think. Although I suspect this might change after June's movie. (Film Qlub member, Another Way, april 2012) Very thought provoking film, and I enjoyed the discussion afterwards. (member of Running Amach, Another Way, april 2012) I thought the film was a brilliant glimpse at lesbian history, despite the tragic ending - and our discussions before and after were really interesting. (member of Running Amach, Another Way, april 2012) [I am] positively surprised at how relaxed and at the same time intellectually A very interesting film. It was a credit to the main actress that her character did not become creepy. I know this film will stay with me for a long time, as there is much in it to be thought over. (Day member, Doña Herlinda, march 2012) I loved the film. (Day member, Doña Herlinda and her Son, march 2012) I don't know how accurate the portrayal of Gertrude Stein was in this movie, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it. (Film Qlub member, Waiting for the Moon, february 2012) Interesting film, and great chat after! (Day member, Waiting for the Moon, february 2012) Apart from very enjoyable film love the 'New Theatre ',
coffees beforehand a nice touch, look forward to next screening from Film Qlub
and thanks again Carol Anne, Maken etc for organising. Enj Lovely film, a much calmer Gertrude Stein than I
expected. And I enjoyed the chat afterward. (member of Running Amach, february 2012) Excellent. A real pleasure to watch and chat and discuss
after. (Day member, Waiting for the Moon, february 2012) Superb film. One of the best films I've ever seen. (Film Qlub member, Colonel Redl, january 2012) It is great to have an opportunity to watch this film on the screen. (Day member, Colonel Redl, january 2012) |
