Great film, could not imagine a nicer way to spend Saturday afternoon      (member of Running Amach, Twice a Woman, June 2014)

Loved it.
(Film Qlub member, Twice a Woman, June 2014)

I really enjoyed the whole thing. [It was my first time at the Film Qlub, and] I will be back.     (Day member, Twice a Woman, June 2014)

I thought that the big age difference was borderline acceptable.  (Day member, Twice a Woman, June 2014)

That opening scene was... unbelievable.           (member of Running Amach, Twice a Woman, June 2014)

Fantastic movie! really enjoyed it, gruesome goughing out of eyeballs notwithstanding! :) Really compelling, and clever inversion of the Oedipal Myth in a trippy queer Toykyo setting. Fair play to [the Film Qlub] for unearthing this gem.  Loved it. Thanks!         (member of Running Amach, Funeral Parade of Roses, May 2014)

I am shocked. Matsumoto [the director of Funeral Parade] should have sued Kubrick. There are at least three scenes in Clockwork Orange that are lifted straight from this film!  (Day member, Funeral Parade of Roses, May 2014)

Great movie, one of my favourites this season.              (member of Running Amach, Funeral Parade of Roses, May 2014)

Many thanks .  .  .  for showing this amazing film, a real delight. Loved the stunning cinematography, deft social commentary and the unexpected wit!        (member of Running Amach, Funeral Parade of Roses, May 2014)

I really enjoyed this film. It transported me back to my coming out days, thank God the scene is just so different now.

One of my favourites this season. [I know some people didnt like the music in the film, but] I thought the soundtrack suited it!  Kind of mesmerising.
(member of Running Amach, Nighthawks, April 2014)

A pretty accurate document of the gay male cruising scene...
(a Film Qlub day member at the post-screening discussion, Nighthawks, April 2014)

... and of the straight cruising scene!               (another Film Qlub day member, finishing the sentence, Nighthawks, April 2014)

Found it fascinating. Well done on screening this film.                      (member of Running Amach, Nighthawks, April 2014)

I dont know of any other circumstances where we would come across the films you research and have for us every month. Always thought-provoking and enriching.
(member of Running Amach, Je, Tu, Il, Elle, March 2014)

I was surprised that I enjoyed this film. As someone who likes her entertainmet 'on tap' the drip drip delivery of the opening scene created opportunities for the imagination, not usually experienced while viewing a film.
(Film Qlub day member, Je, Tu, Il, Elle, March 2014)

That was an endurance test!                       (member of Running Amach, Je, Tu, Il, Elle, March 2014)

Excellent .  .  .  hypnotic and unusual , mysterious and lifelike, I need a bag of sugar! [like the protagonist of the film] :)
(Film Qlub member, Je, Tu, Il, Elle, March 2014)

The meet up was good but the film was very depressing and very hard going especially the first section although I know it shows clearly a woman depressed but I'm not sure if I could say I enjoyed watching it !

A fantastic film!                                       (member of Running Amach, Johan, February 2014)

I like that mixture of documentary and fiction.                         (Film Qlub day member, Johan, February 2014)

A fun film.                                                                                (Film Qlub day member, Johan, February 2014)

I like a film with a story, and there was no story here!  (Film Qlub day member, Johan, Feb 2014)

What a WONDERFUL film!                                                               (Film Qlub day member, Les Biches, Jan 2014)

Loved it! Must try and find myself a young one like that, so I can click my fingers [like the woman in the film], say a" fetch me a beer" and she will obey...     lol      :-)                                             (member of Running Amach, Les Biches, Jan 2014)

A lovely afternoon, congrats on the full house, looking forward to many more of them! This film was a perfect mix of an intriguing power play between the characters, glamorous ennui and foreboding cellos   ;0               (film qlub member, Les Biches, February 2014)

It has everything in it.              (day member, Les Biches, February 2014)

A feast [for] discussion .  .  . With an undercurrent that we are all different, not right or wrong. A great film about our community.
(member of Running Amach, A Very Natural Thing, Dec 2013)

CUTE!   (about four audience members all at once, as soon as the discussion opened to the floor after the screening, A Very Natural Thing, Dec 2013)

Interesting to see that the idea of 'masculinity' as a construct was around in the early seventies.   (audience member, A Very Natural Thing, Dec 2013)

You wouldnt get that kind of real heart-felt honesty in a film nowadays, when people parade their private lives on the net (audience member, Word is Out!, Nov 2013)

A great opening to Season Four.    (Film Qlub member, Word is Out!, Nov 2013)

Some of the views in the film were shocking, and very worrying.  (audience member, Word is Out!, Nov 2013)

....................................................................................................................................................................................

An amazing film.            (audience member, Different from the Others, August 2013, special screening of the Film Qlub in the Light House Cinema  at the GAZE Film  Festival)

Incredible.                       (audience member, Different from the Others, August 2013, special screening of the Film Qlub in the Light House Cinema  at the GAZE Film  Festival)

Almost one hundred years after the movie’s opening, we have come a long way in mainstream society in terms of equal rights and general understanding. But too many people around the globe are still fighting for the same issues as they did in the 1910’s. This screening was a powerful reminder that people already fought for their rights, when there was much more than their reputations at stake.

Even in western society, where the battle for marriage equality often seems to be the only battle left, many groups, such as teachers, athletes and transgender people are still struggling to be accepted in their community or society. Recent political actions in Russia, and the oppression and criminalization of homosexuality in still too many countries, shows us that in the end, only small things have changed, and this film, felt not only inspiring but also empowering.

(Jan Schneider, in a review of the Film Qlub screening of Different from the Others at GAZE, published in Eile Magazine, August 2013)

A very interesting film.            (Film Qlub member, The Detective, July 2013)

Really enjoyed the movie. Good choice. Looking forward to season #4.....The Seventies!       (member of Running Amach, The Detective, July 2013)

Brilliant film and really enjoyable event as always.            (Film Qlub member, The Haunting, June 2013)

It was soooo beautifully shot...              (member of Running Amach, The Haunting, June 2013)

For a horror film, I didnt find it scary at all!          (Film Qlub member, The Haunting, June 2013)

It wasn's my kind of film, but it was interesting to watch.            (Film Qlub member, The Haunting, June 2013)

Beautiful.              (Film Qlub member, Reflections in a Golden Eye, may 2013)

My favourite film of the season.                         (Film Qlub member, Reflections in a Golden Eye, may 2013)

A really lovely get together. Great film and gentle easy going chat afterwards in which I felt very comfortable to input.            (member of Running Amach and first timer at the Qlub, Reflections in a Golden Eye, may 2013)

Really great film, beautifully directed and dreamily ethereal, lots to unpack and enjoyed chats afterwards too! (member of Running Amach, Reflections in a Golden Eye, may 2013)

Brilliant movie, one I'd watch again... loads to think about :)     (Film Qlub member, Young Man with a Horn, april 2013)

Thanks for a lovely afternoon, enjoyed the movie and the analysis after in the Flounge :-)    (member of Running Amach, Young Man with a Horn, april 2013)

Super film.  (Film Qlub Member, Young Man with a Horn, april 2013)

Great film and thought-provoking discussion.       (member of Running Amach, Young Man with a Horn, april 2013)

I really enjoyed the film and talk after. The Flounge and the meal were an added bonus. Looking forward to next month's film already! Cheers      (member of Running Amach, Young Man with a Horn, april 2013)

Great movie.  (Day Member, Young Man with a Horn, april 2013)

Very enjoyable afternoon.   (member of Running Amach, Young Man with a Horn, april 2013)

I cant believe they were allowed to make this movie as far back as 1964!!     (Day Member, Les Amitiés Particulières, march 2013)

Lovely though heartbreaking story. Particularly loved the younger actor. Well done again guys for another great movie... (member of Running Amach, Les Amitiés Particulières, march 2013)

Interesting poignant film and any of us who went to same sex boarding schools (albeit many years later) will remember the younger – older student crush. Beautiful and menacing performances       (member of Running Amach, Les Amitiés Particulières, march 2013)

Cool movie as always and interesting 'short' beforehand too!! :)       (member of Running Amach, Caged!, february 2013)

A great film.   (Day Member, Caged!, february 2013)

Really strong gutsy film, enjoyed the short and discussion afterwards too!   (member of Running Amach, Caged!, february 2013)

Thanks for finding this film. (Day Member, Bewildered Youth, january 2013)

I wouldnt say it is a great film, but it is very interesting because of the historical context. (Day Member, Bewildered Youth, january 2013)

The director was a disgrace [in terms of the racist films he made in the 30s]. I am very surprised that he made this film. But that was a totally homophobic ending.         (Day Member, at the post-screening discussion, Bewildered Youth, january 2013)

I didnt find it homophobic at all. I thought it was a very pro-gay movie.
(Day Member, at the discussion, Bewildered Youth, january 2013)

How do you find these films?!  (a bewildered Day Member, Bewildered Youth, january 2013)

Wow!     (a member of the audience, at the sight of Katharine Hepburn with a moustache in the middle of the film, Sylvia Scarlett, december 2012)

It was very well filmed, with some great camerawork at times (Day Member, Sylvia Scarlett, december 2012)

Amazing to think this film was made in 1935 (member of Running Amach, Sylvia Scarlett, december 2012)

Great film and I enjoyed the discussion afterwards (member of Running Amach, Sylvia Scarlett, december 2012)

Very entertaining if far fetched Sylvia Scarlett / Katharine Hepburn 1936 film. I loved the sea rescue scene. This movie is hers for sure, striking the attention of all whether she plays boy or girl. The short "Homosex and the City" was hilarious. Great end to Film Qlub for 2012. Onward to 2013. (member of Running Amach, Sylvia Scarlett, december 2012)

Lovely, Katharine Hepburn makes a beautiful man. (member of Running Amach, Sylvia Scarlett, december 2012)

I had never heard about this film before (Day member, The Leather Boys, november 2012)

Some films of the period are ambiguous, they dont make it clear if they have a gay theme of not, but this is obviously a gay film (Day member, The Leather Boys, november 2012)

Apart from the gay story, I liked the portrait of working class people in the film, like the grandmother, resilient and proud, getting on with it and not showing any signs of weakness in front of others. I have known many people like her, she felt real. (Day member, The Leather Boys, november 2012)

A very enjoyable film (film qlub member, The Leather Boys, november 2012)

Really enjoyed the film club as usual. Really beautiful, crafty and interesting film with a great discussion afterwards as always (film qlub member, Cat People, october 2012)

I saw the film many years ago and I didn't pick up on the lesbian content, but it's different to watch it in a gay context (Day Member, Cat People, october 2012)

I really enjoyed it. The film was ' super-lesbian  ' --- said in my best [Catalan] accent! The New Theatre is a really cute venue! (member of Running Amach, Cat People, october 2012)

I really enjoyed my first Film Qlub event and I'll definitely be back :-)        (member of Running Amach, Cat People, october 2012)

One of the best films I've ever seen. (Film Qlub member, Pixote, July 2012)

Extraordinary. (Day member, Pixote, July 2012)

An amazing film.  (Day member, Pixote, July 2012)

Really good. Tough to watch though. (Film Qlub member, Pixote, July 2012)

It was a fun movie and very different from the last two movies I've seen at the Film Qlub. I'm curious to see more anime now. It was a great discussion afterwards, as always, and it was brilliant that Katherine Farmar was there to explain the genre to us as it was new territory for almost everyone. I can't wait for Season 3 now! (member of Running Amach, Project A-Ko, june 2012)

Wonderful afternoon.   (Film Qlub member, Project A-Ko, june 2012)

It wasn't my kind of film, but I'm really glad I went and heard people's opinions on it. Lovely meet up and great conversation afterwards.  (member of Running Amach, Project A-Ko, june 2012)

A film to stop thinking and just let yourself go. Really refreshing and super fun. (member of Running Amach, Project A-Ko, june 2012)

A great film. My favourite film of the Season so far. (Film Qlub member, The Fourth Man, may 2012)

The film was fun! (Day member, The Fourth Man, may 2012)

It reminded me of Hitchcock, and of David Lynch. (Day member, The Fourth Man, may 2012)

Where did you get this film? It is not available anywhere. (Day member, The Fourth Man, may 2012)

It was a very entertaining movie! Great choice. (Day member, The Fourth Man, may 2012)

The Film Qlub is a great concept and everyone was so welcoming. And tea and biscuits beforehand - sure you can't go wrong!! I loved the discussion about the film afterwards - it's brilliant to hear other people's views on the characters and the storyline and it made me think a bit differently about the movie I saw. I'll definitely be back to the Film Qlub!  (member of Running Amach, april 2012)

I really enjoyed the movie. My favourite this season I think. Although I suspect this might change after June's movie. (Film Qlub member, Another Way, april 2012) [Editor's note: and it did!]

Very thought provoking film, and I enjoyed the discussion afterwards. (member of Running Amach, Another Way, april 2012)

I thought the film was a brilliant glimpse at lesbian history, despite the tragic ending - and our discussions before and after were really interesting. (member of Running Amach, Another Way, april 2012)

A very interesting film. It was a credit to the main actress that her character did not become creepy. I know this film will stay with me for a long time, as there is much in it to be thought over. (Day member, Doña Herlinda, march 2012)

I loved the film. (Day member, Doña Herlinda and her Son, march 2012)

I don't know how accurate the portrayal of Gertrude Stein was in this movie, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it. (Film Qlub member, Waiting for the Moon, february 2012)

Interesting film, and great chat after! (Day member, Waiting for the Moon, february 2012)

Lovely film, a much calmer Gertrude Stein than I expected. And I enjoyed the chat afterward. (member of Running Amach, february 2012)

Excellent. A real pleasure to watch and chat and discuss after. (Day member, Waiting for the Moon, february 2012)

Superb film. One of the best films I've ever seen. (Film Qlub member, Colonel Redl, january 2012)

Absolutely fascinating film for anyone with an interest in politics. (Day member, Colonel Redl, january 2012)
